Theatre Set and Props Design and Construction
There is a thrill when set and props imagined are then constructed full-scale. Walking on a theatrical set and experiencing the flow and beauty of design is pure magic.
Building of maquettes, drafting and construction of props and sets, theatrical painting, and set dressing are all aspects of theatre I enjoy.
Matkin is a former name.
A romantically beautiful set.
The “walls” of the house were stenciled a stylized sun.
The rocks are carved from Styrofoam, covered and painted. My young children helped me…mostly.
More rocks…
The boy’s body was designed and constructed articulated for better effect.
Set was designed to be overlarge to emphasize the insignificance of the patients.
There were several trap doors on the deck of the ship for sailors to pop in and out of.
The ship extended over the orchestra pit so I made the pit part of the ocean and gave the orchestra leader a captain’s hat to wear! He loved it.
Waves wear put on beams over the orchestra pit.
The rigging was knotted according to historical records and was used throughout the play as sailors climbed up and down it.
Props were constructed out of various materials. The anchor was Styrofoam, carved, covered, painted.
The figurehead was fun to design and construct.
